The function of Battery Management System
- Jun 29, 2018 -

Battery management system can be used for electric cars, underwater robots and so on. In general, the battery management system must achieve the following functions:

(1) Accurate estimation of SOC:

Accurately estimate the state of charge (SOC) of the power battery pack, that is, the  battery remaining capacity, ensure that the SOC is maintained within a reasonable range, prevent the battery from being damaged due to overcharge or overdischarge, and display the battery remaining capacity of hybrid car at any time, ie, the state of charge of the energy storage battery.

(2) Dynamic monitoring:

During the charging and discharging process of the battery, the terminal voltage and temperature, charge and discharge current, and total voltage of battery pack voltage of each battery of the electric vehicle’s battery pack are collected in real time, preventing overcharge or overdischarge of the battery. At the same time, the status of the battery can be given in a timely, and the problematic battery can be selected out, maintain the reliability and high efficiency of the operation of the entire battery, making it possible to realize the remaining battery estimation model. In addition to this, we also need to establish a usage history file for each battery to provide information for the further optimization and development of new types of electricity, chargers, motors, etc., and to provide the basis for offline analysis system failure.

The charging and discharging process of the battery generally uses a current sensor with higher accuracy and better stability for real-time detection. Generally, according to  the front-end current of the BMS, select the corresponding sensor.

(3) Balance between batteries:

That is, the equalization charge of the single cells, which can enable the batteries in the battery pack to reach a state of equilibrium. Balanced technology is the key technology for a battery energy management system that the world is currently researching and developing.
